London in December
a few of my favorite recommendations

There’s nothing more magical than London in the winter months. It’s everything you’ve ever imagined of a Christmas Rom Com. The twinkling lights, mulled wine, festive music, and the chaos of department stores and last minute shopping. There’s so many ways to enjoy London during the Holidays as seen in Love Actually and Bridget Jones. It’s magical if you’re solo, with a partner, or with family. You really can’t go wrong, unless of course… you sit in the hotel room and do nothing. Let me help with that. Below are a just a few of my favourite places to eat and things to do for the holiday season. Trust me, there’s so much more. But it can get overwhelming so this is a good place to start.

Roka— The miso black cod is my favourite thing here and the pre-theatre menu is such a great value even if you aren’t going to the theatre.
The Barbury— One of our favourite date night spots. Reservation highly recommended as the seating is very limited. Everything is cooked on a fire in the middle of the restaurant and the vibe is cozy.
The Devonshire— A popular pub known for its Guinness. When I first moved here I took a note from Tom Holland’s “favourite London places” and this was one of them.
J. Sheekey— Also on Tom’s list, and now on mine. I’ve never been disappointed and it’s a lovely dinner spot for occasions.
Blind Spot— A soho speakeasy with cozy interiors often playing smooth jazz music. It’s sexy, it’s unique, and it’s smack dab in the middle of London.
Cycene— A well-loved option for a big splurge.
Bistro Freddies—My East London favourite for date night or catching up with a friend. I recommend sitting at the bar or requesting a table in the corner as it’s all romantic and candle-lit.
Rules— A solid choice in the middle of the city.
Gold— If you find yourself in Notting Hill for the evening, Gold is your girl.
Pophams Bakery— Get. The. Sweet. Treat.
Mercato Metropolitano— A unique option for picky eaters and the indecisive group. The setting is in a beautiful old church with loads of food stalls — think pizza, Thai food, steak frites, and ice cream.
Fortnum & Mason— If you’re wanting quintessential London, this afternoon tea is a classic. Last year, the building was decorated as a sparkly advent calendar. You can’t get more London than F & M. They also have great jars of jam and chocolates to bring home to friends and family.
Nightjar— Make a resy here to grab cocktails and listen to live music. Another cozy speakeasy near Carnaby Street.
Mayfair Chippy— My favourite fish & chips in the city!

Old Bond Street— Where all the luxury stores compete to have the best Christmas lights on the block. Dior had a beautiful sea-themed lighting set up last year and Chanel was wrapped in a classic tweed bow.
Oxford & Regent Street— There’s no way you miss this if you’re wandering London but I must mention it anyway. Street lights of Angels make their way down the road beautifully. You won’t be able to resist whipping out your phone for a picture. But hold it tight as this is when the phone thiefs like to take their opportunity. Don’t be scared, just be smart!
Winter Wonderland— You do need tickets for this pop-up theme park in Hyde Park. It’s worth it. Grab hot chocolate, ride a rollercoaster, or have a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.
Liberty — The classic London department store of your dreams.
Tower Bridge— Commonly confused to be London Bridge. It’s the prettiest, most picturesque bridge in the city.
The Crown Jewels— Come to the Tower of London to see all the Jewels used in the coronation. There’s even a 55 carat diamond that is a must see. I kept going round and round on the conveyor belt to admire it’s beauty.
Harrod’s— Another iconic, luxury department store. This year they have a very cute, very kid friendly Jelly Cat installation built to resemble an airport lounge. A fun experience for the little ones.
Pavilion Road & Duke of York Square — The most beautiful part of Chelsea. Lots to do and see in this corner of the city.
Kew Gardens — Get your tickets early. A little ways from central but worth the trip. The Christmas lights are fantastic.
Christmas Market at Southwark— Grab a hot chocolate and enjoy this Christmas Market along the Thames.
Ice Skating at Somerset House— Iconic. We went on a date here last year and it’s truly what rom coms are made of.
Royal Albert Hall— Check to see if there’s a show. A beautiful setting with red velvet seats. One of London’s most valuable venues.
West End Shows — My favourites: Matilda, Titanique, The Lion King. Book in advance and enjoy!
Borough Market— I believe it’s closed on Mondays so it’s worth a check before you go. Yes, the strawberries ARE that good.
V&A Museum— It’s free and it’s one of my favourites. If you’re a museum girlie, this one’s for you.

Arguably my favourite city to be in for the holidays. If you’re coming to visit, I hope you fall in love with it as much as I have. If you haven’t yet, do add it to your list.
Until next time,
Katie xx
